A Script of Infinite Possibilities

An exciting new script idea is gaining popularity within the Blood on the Clocktower community. Made popular by Patters, the core idea is to have an audience (or randomized) choice add extra unknown characters to the base Trouble Brewing script.

The players do not know which characters were added to the script, only the players recieving the extra tokens. In person games can achieve this by just adding the extra tokens to the game. Online it is a little harder to build scripts that the players themselves don’t know which is included.

So I’ve decided to write a script which includes the base Trouble Brewing characters, the Banshee as that is mechanically required for the app to be present to use the features of the Banshee and then some special +1 tokens (Townsfolk, Outsider, Minion, Demon) that you can use as a proxy in your game for any of the extra characters you want to play with.

It includes all the special functionality of other mechanical roles such as Lil’Monsta and Organ Grinder etc.

Some questions we’ve had playing this game type?

Q: How many +1 should you add to a game?
A: Common set up is +1 Good role (Townsfolk or Outsider) and +1 Evil (Minion or Demon), but the script does allow you to add +1 of each type.

Q: Do the players know how many +1s added to the game?
A: Entirely up to the Storyteller, but as to make the game solvable for the good team it’s recommended that the Storyteller give a range of how many could be included (e.g 0-4 or 2-4 etc.)

Q: Can a player that is not a +1 character register as an off-script character?
A: Again the Storyteller should decide this before the game but I have found it more fun to allow for players to register as off-script characters. For example, the +1 Demon is a Fang Gu, but the ST could show the poisoned Undertaker the Legion token. It is recommended to do that sparingly otherwise the game will be impossible for good to win.

Q: Can a Summoner pick any +1 Demon when they create a demon?
A: It is not recommended. If you do want to include this as an option it would be recommended to make that clear to all your players ahead of time. If you have a +1 Minion as a Summoner, then their choices would be your +1 Demon that you added to the script at set up or the Imp. If the Storyteller did not add a +1 Demon to the script, then the choice just defaults to Imp.

Q: There are so many characters to choose from and I don’t have any non-players to help me choose. What is a quick way to randomly select characters?
A: I’ve used the random page feature from the BOTC Official wiki and kept randomizing until I load a page of the type of character I wanted (e.g. the first good and first evil character’s page I load)
